"Don't Touch the Big Red Button!" Some Life Lessons
Four lessons a
virtual disaster taught me, plus two I tried to teach (Summary)
I learned:
1) Anger generates
terrible responses generally, but especially when the offending
behavior came from ignorance.
2) Communicating and
enforcing boundaries beforehand prevents many future mishaps.
3) I would rather
others learn not to press the “big red button” through a video
game medium than actual real life.
4) Giving someone an
opportunity necessitates risk.
I tried to teach:
1) Don’t take an
action if you don’t understand the reasons or the consequences.
2) “It’s just a
game.” The cost was steep and I was frustrated, but ultimately my
relationship to you is more important.
